GAIR RHYDD
The student newspaper of Cardiff University was a cool place for an undergrad interested in politics and desperate to stop a war to send some ideas out into the world. Here are some cuttings from my time there…
The Cardiff Red Choir were always a staple of protests in the city. Hopefully they still are!
We did, with so many others, and the government ignored us.
Apparently I declared war on America once! Who knew?
I loved smuggling in song-titles into headlines - this was a Bullet of Diplomacy song "weapons of mass distraction". Check it out on Spotify!
Happily, while I didn't stop the war, I did change several students' minds, some of whom became politicised because of reading stuff like this by me in GR.
Ironically, all these years later, the student council at the school I work in are trying to have this same argument with the muti-academy trust - how is green energy not a thing anymore?
